Shooting underway in New Mexico - Into The West

Postby Into The West » Sat Jan 22, 2005 4:21 pm

January 2005

Into The West, an epic six part series produced by Dreamworks for TNT began shooting this month in New Mexico. (Previous filming included Calgary, Alberta)

There will be three episodes filmed New Mexico. Filming will continue until May. Any crew or cast wishing to get on this show should fax a resume to 505-424-6407.

Into the West is the story of the western frontier "through the eyes of two successive generations of American and Native American families".

The Hollywood Reporter tells us not to expect an old school, shoot 'em up cowboys and Indians (politically and historically incorrect) romp, however, as Spielberg is striving to portray the Old West as it truly was, especially when it comes to the plight of Native Americans.

Coming in Summer 2005

This film will air June 17, 2005 on TNT.

Turner Network Television (TNT) and DreamWorks Television are producing the epic 12-hour original limited series Into The West, about the opening of the American West. Steven Spielberg is the executive producer.

The limited series follows two multi-generational American and Native American families with each telling the dramatic stories of the development of the West from their distinct points of view.

The episodes will bring them into contact with many of the larger-than-life characters and authentic historic events of the era.

Jay Tavare, a Native American actor ( White Mountain Apache, Navajo and Latin ) appears in a prominent role in the Spielberg-produced “Into the West”.

A key element of the series will tie the story of the family of settlers and Native Americans together in very personal ways. Tavare plays Chief Prairie Fire, a Cheyenne who falls in love with Naomi (played by Keri Russell), a settler woman - a fiesty frontier woman.

Production began in August 2004 with its premiere in the summer of 2005 on TNT.

Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, the co-heads of DreamWorks Television, will be co-executive producers.

"A production as ambitious as this requires partners of the highest caliber. To that end, the creative genius of Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks gives us the opportunity to make this an event of grand stature and a project emblematic of the TNT Drama brand," said Steve Koonin, executive vice president and chief operating officer of TBS Superstation and TNT.

"We are excited that TNT has given us the opportunity to bring a limited series with this breadth and scope to dramatic original television. All of us at DreamWorks look forward to this association with our partners at TNT," said Spielberg.

DreamWorks SKG was formed in October 1994, by its three principal partners-Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen-to produce live-action motion pictures; animated feature films; network and cable television programming; home video entertainment; records; books; toys; and consumer products.
