The AIP, recommended for approval on June 10, 2003, includes 6,000 hectares of land in addition to existing reserve land of 1,907 hectares. Key provisions are land and arrangements on governance and co-management.

The AIP also identifies issues requiring further negotiation including revenue sharing and fiscal arrangements.

Chief Negotiator Joe Gallagher said that he is ready to accept the tough challenge of final agreement negotiations with the governments of Canada and BC.

Sliammon is the third First Nation to ratify an AiP within the past three months.

Third edition of What's the Deal with Treaties? released

Responding to high demand, the Treaty Commission produced a third edition of its most popular informational book—What's the Deal with Treaties?

The guide, originally developed along with a 20-minute video as an educational tool for Social Studies 10 and First Nations 12 students, is now requested by a wide variety of organizations looking for a lay person's guide to treaty making in British Columbia.

The Treaty Commission has now distributed 10,000 copies of the guide, which is available online at www.bctreaty.net or by phoning toll free:
1-800 665 8330.
