Murray Porter’s
`Songs Lived & Life Played’ nominated for 2012 JUNO Awards in the
`Aboriginal Recording of the Year’ category

(Coast Salish Territory, North Vancouver, BC) The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences announced today in Toronto, Ontario, the nominees for the 2012 JUNO Awards, which will be held in Ottawa on March 31 & April 1. In this years `Aboriginal Recording of the Year’ category, Murray Porter was nominated for his independent album ‘Songs Lived & Life Played’. He’s honoured to be nominated along side fellow nominees, Bruthers of Different Muthers, Donny Parenteau, Flying Down Thunder and Rise Ashen, and Randy Wood.

Porter was a 2005 JUNO nominee with his former band The Pappy Johns Band for their release `Full Circle’. His latest JUNO nominated release contains all original songs, and for the first time in his career, he’s worked with co-writers, Josh Miller (Mohawk) and Elaine Bomberry (Ojibway/Cayuga) on a few songs. The 11 song recording includes one dedicated to the Indian Residential School Survivors in Is Sorry Enough? and to the murdered and missing Women and their families thru Since She Went Away. True to his boogie-woogie style of playing, Murray also created new blues classics with Rez Bluez and I Feel Lucky.

The incredibly talented musicians on`Songs Lived & Life Played’ are: Murray Porter (Mohawk) on vocals and keyboards; Rick Boulter on guitar; Helene Duguay (Miqmaq/French) on bass and harmonies; Chris ‘The Wrist’ Nordquist on drums. The guest players are: Renae Morriseau (Cree) on harmonies; David Hoerl (The Twisters) guest harmonica on Rez Bluez; and Christopher Allen guest harmonica on Since She Went Away and That Man Was Me.

His new CD has been met with rave reviews from coast to coast to coast. It’s also being played on radio throughout North America, from Danny Mark’s Bluez FM on JAZZ-FM in Toronto, to Native America Calling in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to NCI-FM in Winnipeg to CFNR-FM in Terrace, B.C. to Saturday Night Blues on CBC Radio with Holger Petersen, and many radio stations in-between. So far, 3 songs from Porter’s new album, Dog House, Rez Bluez and I Feel Lucky, are in regular rotation on Galaxie Blues on cable and satellite television across Canada.

‘Songs Lived & Life Played’ recorded at Cosmic Pig Studios, Coast Salish Territory/North Vancouver, British Columbia. Executive Producer: Rick Boulter of Cosmic Pig Studios; Co-producer: Murray Porter; Associate Producers: Elaine Bomberry and Helene Duguay; Engineer: Rick Boulter; Mixed by: Rick Boulter; Mastered by: Bob Olhsson Audio Mastery, Nashville, Tennessee; CD Artwork designed by: Os12 (Ron Dean Harris/Coast Salish); Photography by: Joecy Shepherd.
