Postby admin » Thu Sep 29, 2011 9:16 pm

In preparation for the Atlantic National Event from October 26-29 in Halifax,
the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) is hosting Hearings in Charlottetown:

Charlottetown, PEI
October 4 – 9:00am to 6:00pm
Rodd Charlottetown, 75 Kent Street

If you are unable to attend, you can witness these ceremonies live via webcast (www.trc.ca) starting at 9:00am Atlantic Time.

About the Hearings

The purpose of the Atlantic Hearings are to inform the public about the Commission’s work and statement gathering process, and provide survivors with time to reflect and share their experiences in lead up to the TRC’s third National Event. These Hearings will provide an opportunity for Residential School Survivors to share with the Commission and Canada the unique experiences of children who attended Residential Schools.

The Atlantic Hearings and the upcoming Atlantic National Event also provide opportunities for all Atlantic Canadians, both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, to learn more about and bear witness to the legacy of the Residential School system.

Atlantic Hearings Schedule

September 8: Fredericton, NB
September 20: Goose Bay, NL
September 22 & 23: Hopedale, NL
October 4: Charlottetown, PEI
October 12: Indian Brook, NS
October 14: Eskasoni, NS

TRC Hearings and National Events are free and open to everyone.

Join us for the Atlantic National Event in Halifax from October 26-29, 2011
at the World Trade and Convention Centre.

About the TRC

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission was established as a result of the 2007 Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. Its mandate is to inform all Canadians about what happened in the 150 year history of the Residential Schools, and guide and inspire a process of reconciliation and renewed relationships based on mutual understanding and respect. www.trc.ca
