Newfoundland Residential Schools Class Actions
"This lawsuit concerns allegations of sexual and physical abuse at five Indian Residential Schools (“IRS”) located in Newfoundland and Labrador. Specifically, five separate lawsuits were filed alleging that former residents of five IRS in Newfoundland and Labrador, operated by the Canadian Government, were neglected, sexually and physically abused. The allegations state that the defendant, the Canadian Government, had the full responsibility for these residents after Newfoundland and Labrador joined the Confederation on March 31, 1949."

"You are a class member if, while residing in Newfoundland or Labrador, between March 31, 1949 and the schools’ closure, you attended one of the following schools: Lockwood School, Nain Boarding School, St. Anthony Orphanage, Makkovik Boarding School, or Yale School. You may also be a class member if you are a spouse, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent or sibling of an individual who attended these schools."
