The First Nations Snowboard Team (FNST) strives to support, encourage and provide experienced and non-experienced First Nation snowboarders with the capacity to compete and win snowboard competitions. The FNST empowers our athletes by providing instructor certification opportunities in order to introduce the sport of snowboarding to our younger generations
Website: www.fnriders.com
The team is divided into three categories:
(1) High Performance Team - 22 youth (ages 14-28yrs)These team members participate in competitions, and are at a more advanced level of
snowboarding. Nine of the HPT members also have their Canadian
Association of Snowboard Instructors (CASI) memberships which allow them to teach members of the Recreation Program.
(2) Outreach Members - Team Members from other Nations besides Squamish Nation and Lil'Wat Nation (outreach members are on the HPT).
(3) Recreational Team - 44 youth (ages 5-21) These youth are either new
to snowboarding or have very little experience in the sport.
Most of the Team members are from the Squamish Nation and Lil'Wat Nation (they reside in the Vancouver area, Squamish, Whistler, and Mount
Currie).
FNST also includes some 'Outreach' members who are from other
Nations.
