GE Launches 2nd Annual Scholarship Program for Aboriginal Students

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Feb. 7, 2011

GE Canada is inviting applications for its second annual GE Foundation Scholar-Leaders Program for Aboriginal Canadians. The program provides financial support and skills development opportunities for five first-year undergraduate students from recognized institutions. Applications are invited from students pursuing degrees in the fields of engineering or business/management. It is open to Canadian resident Aboriginal individuals (First Nation status or non-status, Métis or Inuit).

"The GE Foundation Scholarships offer a unique opportunity to students who receive financial support as well as mentoring and leadership training as they pursue their degrees." notes Terry Peach, Manager, GE Human Resources. Throughout the program, scholarship recipients have access to GE leaders, and participate in training that provides business insight and knowledge. "Investing in Aboriginal Canadians is a great way for all of us to work together and learn more about the tremendous potential of next generation business leaders who will shape Canada's future, "says Peach.

The scholarship includes a grant of $4,000 per year in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year of the student's undergraduate program, mentorship by a GE business leader in Canada, participation in specially designed leadership development seminars, and participation in community development projects.
