Closing the gap in First Nations education

Postby admin » Thu Aug 02, 2012 7:18 pm

August 2012

In this article, Dominic Giroux presents six conditions for sustainable change to
improve on-reserve education of Aboriginal youth.

Dedicated attention and a commitment to work together by all levels of government are needed to address
the gap between First Nations education outcomes compared with those of other
Canadian learners.

A compelling example of such intergovernmental cooperation
was the improvement in educational achievement among French-language students
in Ontario after the establishment of French-language school boards. A similar
approach could be equally successful for First Nations students attending band operated
schools. http://www.irpp.org/po/archive/aug12/giroux.pdf
